Encounters With The Gready Guinea Hen
Feb 27th, 2007 by Beate

When we moved to the horse farm we acquired a Guinea Hen from the former owner who was not able to capture her. We call her Amelia Bedelia. I think she knew excately why she wanted to stay. She is the most funniest bird I have ever seen. It started when she first discovered how great our horses grains taste and she hit the jack pot when I left a bag of horse feed in the barn. Amelia sneaked in at night and picked it open. To my surprise she and maybe some mice helping out, ate almost half of the bag. Since than she hangs out with our horses, eager to eat their leftovers. When our dogs demanded their share of horse feed one day and stormed towards the dinner table on the field the hen had no chance but flying right up into the air and landed on one of our horses butt. After he turned into a wild bucking monster for a moment he calmed down and the hen flew into a tree. I on the other hand was holding my stomach because I had to laugh so hard.
