Pets, Pets, Pets

Early summer is an emotional time for me. While I look at all my healthy and happy pets and am pleased that I have been able to give them safe, loving lives, I also see and read about the millions of homeless cats and dogs. Summer is the time when most have litters, adding to the numbers whose daily struggle is nothing less than the fight for survival. Read the rest of this entry »

Obidience Training For Your Dog

Every year, millions of Americans welcome a new dog into their home, particularly in the late spring and early summer. And every year, hundreds of thousands of dogs are given up for adoption, chiefly because they exhibit unruly behavior. Why? Because many people think they know everything necessary to train their companion animals, when really they have nothing other than a vague idea. Read the rest of this entry »

The Purrfect Nanny in Atlanta

Cats are usually happier in their own homes when their human companions have to leave for a few days, with a trusted friend or professional pet sitter to check in on them at least daily during your absence. It’s important to make sure the surrogate caregiver knows exactly what to do for your cat, both in terms of routine care and in case of a veterinary emergency. This printable Checklist for Your Cat Sitter will prove useful for that purpose.

Animals In Atlanta

One of Zoo Atlanta’s new meerkats pokes his head up for a look around. Four meerkats and two warthogs went on display Wednesday.

There are certainly tons of nice things to do in Atlanta during summer break with your kids but which kid does not just love the Atlanta Zoo? My daughter does and so does the kid in me! We can not wait to go and visit Mei Lan, the Panda Baer cub along with all the other sweet animals and not to forget the petting zoo. But there is also the Atlanta Aquarium waiting for a visit and last not least if you are more in long forgotten animals, visit the dinosaurs in the Fernbank Museum Of Natural History. Beside that you can see the current exhibition Lizards and Snakes alive - wow we loved that a lot! Regardless what you do, enjoy your summer with your children and don’t miss out on the attractions our wonderful metropolis has to offer.  Read the rest of this entry »

It’s been debated, it’s been argued about between vets, and pet owners for decades. To declaw, or not to declaw?

Well, there are valid reasons on both sides. However this blog is about MY opinion! :)

I am a FIRM believer in NOT declawing pets.

Why?

IT IS painful! Like it or not, it does hurt your cat! It has been proven time and again, that cats have phantom pain (similar to that of an amputee) for years after having been declawed. Read the rest of this entry »

Funny Dog

Does your dog ever make you laugh – on purpose? Yes, my Russell Terrier Chico does, ask my daughter, ask my husband. Does he know he’s being funny? Yes, and he loves when we laugh about him and goes on and on. An even stranger question – does your dog find things funny? Well, yes - himself…….

I don’t want to disturb this interesting article I found on Yahoo but it hit me like a hammer, they are talking about my dog. Are they possibly talking about yours too? Read the rest of this entry »

No Dog Fight

I want to urge everyone to support the petition against dog fighting. I know we, Atlanta’s people are pet lovers! We don’t stand behind cruel and inhumane activities involving our beloved animals. Go and speak up for the ones who don’t have the security of a good home and help to stop that horrible “game”. Cause for sure is not a game for the dogs involved but deadly serious. Kitty kisses.

http://pets.yahoo.com/blog/catbehavior/14/can-kitties-kiss-just-look-into-their-eyes/

I came across that story on my Yahoo front page last week, and I must say, I always wondered what my cat, Bathory was doing, or thinking, or feeling when she’d give me her slooooow blink. I’ve always done it back, with all my cats for as long as I can remember, never calling it anything, but just knowing we’d shared a moment. Read the rest of this entry »

Sadly, this is my first post here on The Purrfect Pet Health blog. I am saddened about the news, but that does not deter me from informing the masses of this tragedy.

ABC news is just one of the sources you can use to find information about this tragedy.

Several residents of the Parish of St. Bernard so tragically ripped apart by Hurricane Katrina are alleging, and filing a class action law suit against the police department there. Read the rest of this entry »
