Not so much longer and many of our dogs are going to spend a great amount of their time roaming around in our back yards. My dogs always get very thirsty and I bet so do yours! How do you make sure they always have clean, fresh water available, water that is not invested by ants…? Personally I use the Critter Cooler and I can guarantee that’s the best investment you can make. No more worries every few hours that I have to fill up the water bowl and no worries that the water gets dirty or insects take a bath in it. Monkeys as pets? Better think twice before the trouble starts!

Several times in the past we all have heard about attacks by chimpanzees who had been considered absolutely tame. With wild animals there is simply not such a thing as 100% tame. Again I was shocked to learn that a “household pet” chimpanzee almost killed a woman in Connecticut. Known for being the sweetest companion for years, even starred in some commercials, Travis all of a sudden turned wild. Apparently nobody knows what triggered his aggression but the results are not nice. In fact they are horrible. A female friend of his owner was severely injured and her life will be changed forever. Much likely the live of the owner will be changed forever too by the guilt she feels. What seemed to be a live long friendship between human and his closed kin had a horrible ending.
There are so many nice pets out there, why do some people have to have a wild animal?
What are your thoughts about keeping wild animals as pets?

For the longest time I have the feeling I can understand more about what my animals want to communicate to me than the average horse/pet owner but not far as good as I would like to understand. As seen on My Fox Atlanta, there was a deadly dog attack in Kennesaw Friday.

One customer’s dog, mauled another customer’s Mini Schnauzer to death inside the Kennesaw PetsMart store.

What a horrible story. What do you think, should PetsMart allow people to bring their dogs shopping or would they be saver waiting at home?

The new must see dog movie has just hit the movie theaters. After Marley and me, the second Dog movie this year - wow! My daughter and I are going to see that one, I just can not resist and she loves dogs as much as I do. The story line is about two siblings ending up in a foster home with a strict “no dogs” policy. They have to find a home for their beloved dog and soon stumble across an abandoned hotel. The perfect place to transform in a hotel not only for their dogs but also for all stays on the street. In the late 1800s, a German high school mathematics instructor named Wilhelm Von Osten was pushing a few scientific envelopes from his home in Berlin. Among other things, he was a student of phrenology, the now discredited theory that one’s intelligence, character, and personality traits can be derived based of the shape of one’s head. But it was his keen interest in animal intelligence that would ultimately win him fame. Many of us have heard the story of Clever Hans the horse which had ma thematic abilities. But just thinking about it, even if horses can not do math they pick up very well on our thoughts, our body movements and on little hints. Isn’t it amazing. Do you think your horse is smart? I know mine are!

We have to do a lot of improvements in our yard in spring. We were already thinking about using some Cocoa Mulch this year when we were wondering if the mulch made out of cocoa bean shells might be harmful to pets. As we all know chocolate is toxic to dogs and there was a pretty good chance this mulch might be to. Good that we checked first because we found out cocoa mulch actually can be very harmful for your pets and even lead to death possibly. Check out Snopes for more information on the topic and be careful what you put in your yard this spring.

Many of us never think about what happens to soldier’s beloved pets when the owner gets deployed. I must admit, although I am married to a veteran who spent 20 years in the US Army, the thought about soldiers pets never crossed my mind. Maybe because we were always fortunate that I was capable caring for our pets when my husband was in foreign counties fighting for his country and freedom for all US citizens. My wake-up call came a few days ago when I heard about the organization “Guardian Angels For Soldiers“. This nonprofit organization finds foster homes for Soldiers pets while they are deployed. I think everyone who wants to live in peace in this United States should in some way participate and support this group of volunteers in their efforts making a soldiers life less miserable. Just imagine you would have to leave your pet behind. How much better is it to know your pet is taken care of and you can re-unite once you return back home.
