This is our little 3 year old Irish Jack named Chico. The picture was taken the day we picked him up at the breeder and he was only 4 month old. All the way home from Aiken South Carolina, to Acworth, Georgia our little boy slept on our daughters lap. He knew he was on his way home. There are many different dog breeds, not to forget all the Mutts and every person has a preference of their own which dog breed to choose. We choose the Irish Jack because this breed has the reputation to be fairly calm, compared to the Parson Jack Russell Terrier. To learn more about this breed visit Irish Jacks We wanted a dog which is known to get along well with horses and I had a lot of experience with this breed since most of the horseback riders in Germany have at least one, if not two of those funny little dogs. You can see them all over the place when you go to the big hunter/jumper & dressage shows. My riding instructor in Germany had a sweet little girl named Josie and she inspired me to get such a little clown myself. So because he fits our life style he is our dog. We do have another one, Scarlett – our Dalmatian. Next time I tell you about her. What about you? What purebred dog or mix breed do you have and why did you choose this specific breed?

Is the time of the glamorous cat shows over or did we just have one too many in the Metro Atlanta area in 2008? I’m used to volunteer at the Gwinnett County Cotton Tail Cat Show in the Civic Center in Duluth/Lawrenceville year after year. The Georgia Network of Professional Pet Sitters traditionally has a booth there and every year I look forward to hand out business cards and brochures. Most of all however I love to see all the beautiful cats and the vendors offering items for each cat lover. Also the local cat rescues have many cats there for the right home. When I arrived at the show last weekend I was surprised already not to see so many of the rescues present but my surprise got even bigger when I realized that there were a lot less vendors as usually. Last not least only a few visitors stepped by at our booth and seemed not very interested to hear what we have to offer. Are people just overwhelmed, does the city of Atlanta and its suburbs offer to many shows, or what possible reason could the cutback of exhibitors and visitors have?

Firefighters battled a house fire Friday in Sandy Springs.

The story about the Sandy Springs House Fire featured at My Fox Atlanta shocked me. Not only because I felt sorry for the family, but also I was so relieved to hear the dog was not hurt.

Read more about it below and let us know how you are prepared if a fire would happen in your home. How protected will your pets be?

ATLANTA (My FOX Atlanta) — A Sandy Springs home was destroyed by fire Friday afternoon, said authorities.

Fire authorities said the resident of the house turned on the heating system earlier in the day. She smelled something ‘funny’ but didn’t think anything of it.

She then left to run an errand and when she returned the house was on fire.

No one was in the house, fire authorities said.

Her pet — a dog — got out safely.

There is no official word on what may have started the fire.

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The
other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw  print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for  it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically
pleasing in the slightest. Read the rest of this entry »

What are you doing with your pets while kids knock on your door during the traditional Halloween procedure? Will you restrain your dogs or will you let them walk with you to the door to greet the little “monsters”? I will have to restrain my dogs. I can already imagine that this will me just too much for them. Curious what you are going to do?

How great, Barak Obama promised his daughters a puppy!

Of course emotions are high in the country about this matter. Some say he need to adopt a pet from the shelter, while others pledge for a pure bred dog, especially one which does not trigger the allergies of one of his children. What do you think?

I think it is a decision every family must make on their own. The dog needs to be of their liking, needs to fit in their lifestyle and last not least must be loved by all family members. I would say – let them make their own choice.

Good luck President Obama and family in finding your “first” puppy

Ok, here it comes. When I was reading several professional opinions about cats I learned (what was new to me) that cats are supposed to prefer to be the only pet in a household.

How about your cat?

My cat would go crazy without a buddy. While growing up and living for 13 years with his girl friend Velvet, my oriental shorthair boy Diablo now adopted ouf dogs as best friends after Velvet passed. Our little Jack Russell Terrier Chico is the new love of his life.

Now tell me, who is right? The cat professionals or my cat?

Will it ever stop?  Again a dog fighting ring was busted in Atlanta.

As to read in My Fox Atlanta Cobb County authorities seized drugs, 16 pit bulls and arrested seven people Tuesday stemming from a complaint from the Humane Society of the United States.

Pet Events Dacula/Lawrenceville/Duluth

Since we moved to Dacula last year we had been on several cat/dog events but I could not find as many as in the Acworth/Kennesaw/Marietta area where we lived before. Where do most of the Gwinnett county pet events happen? I would love to go and see some dog shows close to home. If you know about some events in Dacula or close by Lawrenceville and Duluth let us know.
